Guarana is a fruit of Brazilian origin. It grows in Amazonia where the climate is ideal for this plant. There is an old legend concerning the Guarana’s origin : the Indians say that this fruit represents the God’s eyes. Indeed, when Guarana becomes ripe, the shell opens and a dark nucleus surrounded of white pulp from the fruit appears and it looks like human eyes.
The plant
Known under the popular name of Guaranà ; its scientific name is PaulliniaCupana, in honour of the German botanist Paullini. The shrub can reach 3 meters in height, its leaves are long and broad, its fruits mature in bunches and look like the coffee when it is green. The Guaranà plant, treated thoroughly, can produce fruits during 40 to 50 years. In 1905, Dr. Luiz Perreira Barreto discovered the energy and gustatory virtues of Guaranà and has had the idea to make a soft drink. Now as you know more about this plant, we propose you to taste one of these drinks.
